Aging Half Japanese White Men Can't Jump

I brought my friend J (that famous singer guy) over to my weekly tennis set with Alvin and the boys. After a few homeruns over the fence he started getting the hang of it. This was the first time J ever played tennis, so we tried our best to coach and yell stuff like "back up!" "not over the fence!" "too high!" to encourage him. Towards the end he was getting better, and while we were picking up all the zillions of balls on the court, I dared J to see if he could jump over the net on the baseline, from a standing position next to it. "Of course I can do that," he said and hopped over. This sort of disappointed me since I didn't think I could do it.

[Quick interjection here]: J and I have this weird little "Can you jump over this?" contest going since a trip together to Australia where we jumped over a bunch of weird stuff.

So while I was standing there trying to estimate how much it would hurt if I caught my foot and smashed my face into the hard court, J tells me, "You don't have to do this you know. Um, at your age....I had this friend who caught his foot in the net and chipped both his front teeth..."

And then every time I just was about to jump, he'd ask me "Are you sure?" and start laughing, which would totally make me lose my concentration.

Needless to say I didn't clear the net, but did the old wuss out hand save just in case maneuver. But I know I can do it. Piece of cake. Until next week.

3q2u is an acronym which if said in Chinese and Japanese sounds like "Thank you to you!" Dumb but easy to remember. More >>
