Kind of annoying

I don't know, tell me if I should be annoyed or not. Maybe I'm just too overworked...

Some TV people and a reporter came into the Living Room the other day. I was in the back office working on the computer, so I went out to be friendly and say hello. The reporter introduces me to her friends, and one of them is a famous TV host I knew from way back when. We chat a bit, and then I'm introduced to Ms. E.

I say a few things like, "Hi...nice you could come...first time here?...hope you like the food...the spaghetti's really good..." Then Ms. E asks me, "Can you speak Chinese?" I'm thinking to myself, 'Funny, isn't that what I've been talking to you in?' Then the reporter says, "He was just speaking to you in Chinese." Then I ask Ms. E, "So what is it you do?" Then Ms. E turns away and exclaims to all her friends, "Oh, thank God! He speaks Chinese!" Then I say to the back of her head, "Gosh, it's so nice to meet you too," and walk away.

I brought this up with Irene the next day when it occurred to me that I was still annoyed. "Why would you be annoyed?" she asked, puzzled. "She's just being Chinese."

So now I don't know what is more annoying: Ms. E's just being Chinese, or the fact that Irene is puzzled why I would be annoyed in the first place.

3q2u is an acronym which if said in Chinese and Japanese sounds like "Thank you to you!" Dumb but easy to remember. More >>
