Betty the groove
Corbett | August 13, 2004 5:05 AM
We did another Vita-Soul gig last Saturday, which is always a treat, and regardless of how little we practice, we've actually gotten a sound. What I really like about this band is that we all play just because we like to play. No other reason. We don't make any money from it. We don't have aspirations to get somewhere. We don't compete with each other, or get all wound up about equipment, or technique, or who's playing too loud, or who missed the head, or who blew the change. We just play. It's very rough around the edges, and sometimes the groove shakes along a little too much like a light blue Ford Fairlane with a few too many miles, but it is funky in a raw authentic chicken lickin' feel, and sometimes after a couple beers, we play just close enough to where that pocket is that it sets off a natural loosey goosey groove that shimmies along like a big-assed Betty who is just old enough to know better, but just young enough to not care.
Here's a few measures of what I'm talking about.

3q2u is an acronym which if said in Chinese and Japanese sounds like "Thank you to you!" Dumb but easy to remember. More >>
