Is it me....

...or am I missing something here in this quote from the VP of Taiwan?

"Lin Wen-hsiung (ªL¤å¶¯), an Aborigine from Taiwan, has created a new career in Mexico as a doctor," Lu said. "He wrote a letter to me last month saying that he is willing to return to Taiwan to explain how he successfully emigrated to Fiji, as an example to inspire other Aborigines."

Mexico and Fiji are far away places.

Did Lin first emigrate to Fiji, then set up practice in Mexico?
What's the connection?
Did the writer mangle her words?
The article in The Taipei Times doesn't clarify it either.

I rarely read the Times or any other English paper here for that matter (except on Fridays when the weekend section come out) because you end up reading so much poorly written and poorly edited journalistic attempts. I used to think it was quaint but now I realize it's just plain bad.

Either way, it's just so sad that the VP of this country thinks that ren zhu min should emigrate from Taiwan to some 3rd world countries in order to have a chance to lead better lives. What brilliant diplomacy!

I noticed that too. I think it's common knowledge amongst Taiwanese that it's possible to "buy" citizenship in some smaller countries, then use that passport to move on to where you actually want to live.

3q2u is an acronym which if said in Chinese and Japanese sounds like "Thank you to you!" Dumb but easy to remember. More >>
