A lot of good this does me in Taiwan...

This just goes to show how fucked the electoral process is.
I was desparate to get my vote in and postmarked before today. Finally I got the letter today from my Denver election commission (after I had gone through all the trouble and sent in via DHL my voter registration nearly two months ago) AND THERE WAS NO VOTER BALLOT!!!
I immediately tried to call, and went to the website to see what was up.
Here's what they had to say:

Some Denver Absentee Ballots Delayed
The Denver Election Commission has received a large number of phone calls from absentee voters who had not yet received their ballots. This concern prompted the Commission to do a trace on the undelivered ballots. The trace revealed that approximately 13,000 ballots were omitted from the vendor's initial run of absentee ballots for Denver.
These ballots had been scheduled for mailing on October 6-8, 2004. The Commission has contacted the vendor and the problem has been corrected. The previously undelivered ballots will be mailed beginning on October 21, 2004, and voters should expect to begin receiving them on October 23, 2004.
The Commission urges absentee voters who have not received their ballots to wait for the ballot to arrive. If voters are leaving town or otherwise may not be able to wait for the ballot, there are options.
• Absentee voters who have not gotten a ballot may visit or fax the Denver Election Commission's main office (200 W. 14th Avenue, corner of 14th Avenue and Bannock) and request and receive a Replacement Absentee Ballot.
• Voters who have not received or voted an Absentee Ballot may also go to early voting or to their polling place (on Election Day) and may vote using a Provisional Ballot.
• If a voter casts a Replacement Absentee Ballot in place of the Absentee Ballot initially requested, the initial absentee ballot will not be counted.
• If a voter casts a Provisional Ballot in place of an Absentee Ballot and the Commission does not receive a completed Absentee Ballot from the voter, only then will the Provisional Ballot will be counted.

3q2u is an acronym which if said in Chinese and Japanese sounds like "Thank you to you!" Dumb but easy to remember. More >>
