Fish treatment

Last Sunday morning I was hanging out in Beijing's UES (Upper East Side) which is a large residential complex in Lido, standing in front of a Parisian Baguette place freezing my b*lls off waiting for Evan to drive up so I could take him to the #8 Sauna.

We were all tired, so a good soak was what we needed. After a half hour or so of popping in and out between the sauna and the Beijing winter, I walked over to the pools and noticed a guy with a net scooping fish out of what used to be the cold plunge.

"So what's with all the fish?" I ask.
"They're for our new fish treatment (yu liao)."
"What the hell is that?"
"Get in and you'll find out."
"You gotta be kidding."

So I call Tony and Evan over, and we ponder the consequences of three naked guys getting into a hot tub filled with thousands of little fishies.

"We definitely have to check this out," was the consensus, so we all hopped in.

Now imagine a hundred little fishes on each of your appendages nibbling and yanking away at dead skin and bacteria, and you will get some sense of the sensation of what it was like sitting in that pool.

"Damn, some of these fish are frisky," Evan pointed out, as we all grabbed our packages in unison.

"I think one of them swam up my ass..." yelped Tony.

"Hey did you guys hear about that Amazon fish that swims up your urethea..."

"Oh God, don't even go there..."

"So when do they open the little trap door and let out the piranhas?"

A half hour of this nervous tickling food chain experience was about all we could take, and we opted for the more traditional foot massage treatment instead.

apparently they are warm water fish, so 37-39 degrees celcius was ok for them. they seems to like the temperature.

3q2u is an acronym which if said in Chinese and Japanese sounds like "Thank you to you!" Dumb but easy to remember. More >>
