Din and Tonics

The Harvard vocal troupe, the Din and Tonics, came through Shanghai as part of a 25 city tour. I called up the gang and we all went over to Murals to enjoy some light fun music. We are in the front front front, and I gave my chair to someone, but grabbed a small stool next to the stage to sit on, and the manager comes over and tells me to please remember to put it back. I though that was weird, but immediately understood why when they ended the set and started to exit the stage. I was sitting on their step, but managed to get it back into position just as the first guy stepped off the stage.

Some of our Taiwanese contingent complained they were getting hungry because the Dins kept saying "shabu shabu".

Hear the Dins singing "shabu shabu"...

What was really interesting about this show was the audience of young women definitely on the look out. Could it be that these enterprising Shanghai ladies were thinking nice young men, Ivy League education, in town for a few days, never been to Asia, maybe a potential catch here...nahh, never in Shanghai.

Ah, must be great to be in college and hit 25 cities on a tour! But none of these guys looked like they had serious game. Sorry Din and Tonics if you're reading this, but I overheard some of your chatter with the locals!

3q2u is an acronym which if said in Chinese and Japanese sounds like "Thank you to you!" Dumb but easy to remember. More >>
