Ron Kirk's perfect embouchure

Corbett | July 14, 2009 8:38 PM

I'm convinced Ron Kirk must've been a sax player. I dropped my Wall Street Journal the first time I saw his photo. He has the perfect sax player's embouchure.

When I was studying with John Purcell back in NYC, I spent months loosening up my years of bad form, completely opening up my sound. I remember all the hours spent working on John's "un, deux, trois" exercizes in front of the mirror. First you smile and say "un", then you hold that while saying "deux", then you say "trois" while dropping your jaw. If you get it right you'll look just like Ron Kirk.

3q2u is written by Corbett Wall, and is really just a window into my quirky little world. It's also a way for me to exercise my thoughts and make random comments outside of cultural, language, or business barriers.

3q2u is an acronym which if said in Chinese and Japanese sounds like "Thank you to you!" Dumb but easy to remember. More >>
