Thai release

This is kind of cool. I just had my last Sony CD released in Thailand.

As they say in Thailand, "Yep!" [which means, cool!]

Just like High School...sort of

I think most guys in Taiwan would beat me to a pulp if they knew what I was doing today.

I picked up a friend after she got off work, who just happens to be Taiwan's hottest super model. She's the one you see all the time on the cover of Next Magazine.

I mean it's kind of weird, she's so famous now, and has to be really careful how she travels, where she's going, etc, because the paparazzi are all over her, staking out the next gossip shot.

Anyways, there we are just the two of us sitting in my car, on a dark tree lined street, chatting and listening to music. It's exactly like a high school date, except without the beer and the braces. Were sitting there for a while when a nice make out song comes on the radio. Next thing you know, I casually reach over and...

The gift of gab

An interesting night. I probably spoke more English tonight than I have in 6 months. Mostly foreigners in the club tonight, and I had a really enjoyable evening chatting away with 3 interesting young women who haven't been here very long. I hadn't been so chatty in a long time, but tonight I realized I just had to say or add or just plain gab. I forgot that conversations with gals were more interesting than the ones with guys. Refreshing to also get a clean windshield wiper view of Taiwan through a newcomer's eyes.

Apart from that, I was just thinking about what are some of the worst places to be when a big earthquake strikes.

1) Under a concrete overpass, in a car, with your seatbelt on
2) At a KTV
3) Anywhere in Taipei 101
4) Mountain biking in Toroko gorge
5) Asleep in a hotel room next doors to a gay sex party at the Hyatt, when they evacuate the floor, not giving you enough time to grab your pants
6) In the middle of plastic eyelid surgery
7) Juggling flaming butcher knives on a unicycle
8) Near a glass tank of tarantulas at the pet store
9) Having a root canal
10) In an elevator with Liza Manelli

Nothing is so difficult...

We've been hosting the Wordplay night at the Living Room, which is quite popular. They even got me to contribute a poem. The topic that night was: Something or Nothing. Artsy fartsy but fun.

My quick contribution...

Nothing is as difficult as
Starting something
From nothing,

With your hands
Your hope
Your high aspirations,

And yet so many people do --
The lofty dreams
Of something achieved,

Achieved for who?

Who is judging this Nothing competition?
This "I wanna be known for something" event
We participate in without end,

Day after day
Over and over
Without fail we know, but don't know
The outcome?

How come Nothing is so difficult?

The dentist

Not a sweet dream night.

I went to the dentist because of my toothache. He gives me the long needle shot, and in my drugged daze, under the little reflective mirror, I see him take out a small circular saw. I cringe and pass out.

When I wake up, I realize that he has cut off my left hand, neatly bandaging the stub where my wrist used to be.

I was more bummed that I wouldn't be playing the sax again, then the fact I had lost a hand.

How to embarrass God

TAIPEI, Taiwan (Reuters) -- A man leaped into a lion's den at the Taipei Zoo on Wednesday to try to convert the king of beasts to Christianity, but was bitten in the leg for his efforts.

Baywatch...Taiwan style

I stumbled across this on Shirlee's site, from some photos of her daughter's 9th birthday on the beach.

And I thought I had a gut!

A lot of good this does me in Taiwan...

This just goes to show how fucked the electoral process is.

I was desparate to get my vote in and postmarked before today. Finally I got the letter today from my Denver election commission (after I had gone through all the trouble and sent in via DHL my voter registration nearly two months ago) AND THERE WAS NO VOTER BALLOT!!!

I immediately tried to call, and went to the website to see what was up.

Here's what they had to say:

-----------------
Some Denver Absentee Ballots Delayed

The Denver Election Commission has received a large number of phone calls from absentee voters who had not yet received their ballots. This concern prompted the Commission to do a trace on the undelivered ballots. The trace revealed that approximately 13,000 ballots were omitted from the vendor's initial run of absentee ballots for Denver.

These ballots had been scheduled for mailing on October 6-8, 2004. The Commission has contacted the vendor and the problem has been corrected. The previously undelivered ballots will be mailed beginning on October 21, 2004, and voters should expect to begin receiving them on October 23, 2004.

The Commission urges absentee voters who have not received their ballots to wait for the ballot to arrive. If voters are leaving town or otherwise may not be able to wait for the ballot, there are options.

• Absentee voters who have not gotten a ballot may visit or fax the Denver Election Commission's main office (200 W. 14th Avenue, corner of 14th Avenue and Bannock) and request and receive a Replacement Absentee Ballot.
• Voters who have not received or voted an Absentee Ballot may also go to early voting or to their polling place (on Election Day) and may vote using a Provisional Ballot.
• If a voter casts a Replacement Absentee Ballot in place of the Absentee Ballot initially requested, the initial absentee ballot will not be counted.
• If a voter casts a Provisional Ballot in place of an Absentee Ballot and the Commission does not receive a completed Absentee Ballot from the voter, only then will the Provisional Ballot will be counted.

Absentee Voters: Your ballot is on the way!

If you have questions about your absentee ballot, please e-mail us at

13,000 unsent ballots. Makes you wonder.
