Foraging in Chaoyang District
One of the things I've grown to really enjoy about Beijing is that almost everything can be delivered to your door. When you're at home working on something, or just lazy and tired, you can make a call, and people will being you food or beer or groceries, whatever.
So I call Annie's (the local Italian Restaurant) across the street, which makes a fortune keeping lazy foreigners fed on delivered pasta, salads, and pizze, to bring over some late lunch.
And they were closed for Chinese New Year!
Damn, I had to actually venture outside and find food for myself.

What's up with the music in Beijing?
People back in Taiwan always ask me when I get back there for a weekend "What's up with the music scene in Beijing? Are they still into 80's metal bands?"
This article by Joshua Frank gives some insight into where the music is headed. It's a small scene, fostered only by a few venues, but it is very cool.

Baseball caps
Em is my DJ friend in Beijing, and invariably we spend a lot of time cruising around in his environment which is clubs.
I commented in one trendy club filled with not so good music and not so able dancers, "Dude, let's get out of here, there's no baseball cap girls."
He thought that was funny. I explained that I judged clubs by the baseball cap factor. I loved to see girls wearing baseball caps. Usually they were cuter, more interesting, and they could dance a lot better. He asked me if this was some perverse little league desire, which got us onto a funny conversation of what guys like to see in girls. After a while of coercing, I finally got him to spit out his girl thing, which was knee high white stockings. Now I thought that was funny.
